Arrest Made in Shooting Death of Too Short’s Brother, Wayne Shaw

Oakland Police Arrest Maijji Jackson in Connection with Murder

by Amelia Crawford

The Oakland Police Department announced the arrest of Maijji Jackson in connection with the fatal shooting of Wayne Shaw, the older brother of Bay Area rap legend Too Short. Shaw, 61, was killed on January 29 in the 1200 block of 49th Avenue around 7 a.m.

According to authorities, the incident began when individuals attempted to force their way into a cannabis grow using a vehicle. Shaw was confronted after exiting the location and was shot multiple times. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. A car with multiple bullet holes was discovered two blocks away from the scene.

Jackson, arrested on Thursday, is facing charges related to Shaw’s murder. The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office is currently reviewing the case, while the Oakland Police Department continues to investigate and search for additional suspects.

Too Short, whose real name is Todd Shaw, is a renowned rapper known for hits like “Blow the Whistle.” Born in Los Angeles, Too Short moved to Oakland as a child and went on to become one of the most prominent figures in Bay Area rap. In recognition of his contributions to the community, Oakland renamed a section of Foothill Boulevard “Too $hort Way” in 2022, and December 10 of that year was officially declared Too $hort Day.

KRON4 reached out to Too Short for comment, but did not receive a response.
