According to Kashmir Media Service, the Crime Branch arrested Naik Sher Singh, a soldier from Hisar, Haryana, who was posted at the Movement Control Office (MCO) at Jammu Tawi Railway Station. Singh allegedly opened fire in a rage-driven attack, firing eight rounds at three women present in the clinic.

The deceased woman, Mehajbeen Akil Sheikh, was from Malad, Mumbai. She succumbed to her injuries on August 29 at the Government Medical College Hospital in Jammu. Her sister Fatima Akil (21) and another woman, Jaspreet Kour (28) from Ludhiana, were critically injured but survived the attack.

A senior officer from the Crime Branch confirmed the recovery of the weapon used in the crime and added that more arrests may follow as the investigation unfolds.

The motive behind the shooting is still under investigation, and authorities are probing the involvement of others who may have aided the crime.
