Armed Man Arrested for Threatening Walmart in Gun Barrel City

A 22-year-old man was arrested in Gun Barrel City, Texas, on Saturday evening after he allegedly threatened to “shoot up the store” at Walmart. Police responded to the call at around 6:30 p.m. and found the suspect, John Thomas Martin of Kerrville, inside the store.

Upon investigation, officers discovered Martin was carrying a Glock 10MM semi-automatic handgun, an extended magazine, and 63 rounds of ammunition in three magazines. In addition, he was wearing a ballistic vest underneath his hoodie and had shooting ear plugs.

Martin was arrested and charged with terroristic threat and unlawful carrying of a weapon. He was previously arrested in 2022 on a similar charge of terroristic threat. As of now, no bond has been set for his release.

The Gun Barrel City Police Department praised the citizens who reported the suspicious behavior, which ultimately helped prevent a potentially dangerous situation.
