Armed Burglary Suspect Geoffrey Chinnow Arrested in El Paso

SWAT operation leads to safe arrest of home invasion suspect

Armed Burglary Suspect Arrested After SWAT Operation in El Paso County

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. — Authorities arrested Geoffrey Chinnow, 37, Tuesday morning following a SWAT operation linked to a home invasion in Fountain.

Police were dispatched at 9:57 a.m. to the 900 block of Grinde Drive after a victim reported that Chinnow forcibly entered their apartment. During the incident, Chinnow allegedly struck the victim in the head with a handgun, threatened to shoot them, and fired two shots into the floor before fleeing.

Fountain detectives launched an investigation and secured an arrest warrant for Chinnow. Surveillance was set up at his residence on Marksheffel Road in unincorporated El Paso County.

At approximately 5:47 p.m., the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team and Crisis Negotiations Unit initiated a tactical operation after spotting Chinnow inside his garage. Following about 20 minutes of negotiations, Chinnow exited peacefully and was taken into custody without incident.

Chinnow faces multiple charges including first-degree burglary, second-degree assault, illegal discharge of a firearm, menacing, possession of a weapon by a previous offender, and criminal mischief. Due to his extensive criminal record, he is being held on a $25,000 bond.
