TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) — A Topeka man was arrested late Monday night following a traffic stop in North Topeka that led to the discovery of illegal narcotics, authorities announced Thursday.
The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Arlie Jason Barhum, was stopped by a Shawnee County sheriff’s deputy shortly after 11 p.m. near the intersection of N.E. US-24 and K-4 highways while driving a white Chevrolet Tahoe.
According to Deputy Abigail Christian, illegal narcotics and drug paraphernalia were found during the stop. Barhum was arrested at the scene and booked into the Shawnee County Jail at 12:50 a.m. Tuesday.
He faces charges of possession of an opiate, opium, narcotic, or certain stimulant, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Barhum was released later that day after posting a $2,500 bond.
He is scheduled to appear in Shawnee County District Court at 2 p.m. on July 3. The investigation remains ongoing.
