In a swift operation, Chengamanad police arrested Arjun Krishnan, 25, for assaulting a 79-year-old woman and stealing her gold ornaments from her home in Kuttipuzha near Chengamanad.
The incident took place around 3 p.m. on Saturday when the elderly woman, who lives alone, was brutally attacked. She sustained a head injury during the assault. The accused then stole her gold ornaments before fleeing the scene.
At around 7:30 p.m., the victim’s brother found her lying unconscious in a pool of blood and alerted the Chengamanad police.
Authorities launched an immediate investigation. Using CCTV footage and scientific methods, the police tracked and arrested Arjun Krishnan, a resident of Raj Vihar, Alapra, Perumbavoor, within hours of the crime.
Investigators revealed that Arjun was an acquaintance of a relative of the victim, which he used to gain entry into the house. He then carried out the attack and robbery.
The stolen ornaments and pawn receipts were later recovered from a financial institution where the gold had been pledged.
The case has raised serious concerns about the safety of senior citizens living alone and highlights the importance of quick police response and surveillance technology in solving such crimes.
