A man has been sentenced to two years in prison after being caught hiding inside a cannabis factory in South Yorkshire. Arjan Imeraj, 45, of no fixed abode, was discovered by police in a makeshift bedroom within an industrial unit in Kirk Sandall, Doncaster.
Officers uncovered 150 cannabis plants, with an estimated street value of £150,000, after receiving a tip-off from the public. The operation was a result of intelligence shared by local residents, who had learned about a separate cannabis farm recently uncovered nearby.
The police used a drone to survey the area, which confirmed the presence of a large-scale cannabis setup. Upon entering the unit on 2 May, they found Imeraj hiding in the rear of the property.
At Sheffield Crown Court, Imeraj admitted to producing cannabis and was sentenced to two years in prison. After the sentencing, Insp Alison Carr from South Yorkshire Police highlighted the connections between large-scale cannabis farms and serious criminal activities, such as human trafficking and violence. She encouraged the public to continue providing intelligence to help tackle the illegal drug trade.
