Two men were arrested by Mumbai police for allegedly breaking into homes and shops across the city to steal cash and valuables to fund their drug addiction. The suspects, identified as Arif alias Rauf Salimulla Khan (35) and Firoz Farman Ahmed Sheikh (32), were tracked down following a series of break-ins, including a robbery in Nagpada early Friday morning where they made off with cash and valuables worth Rs 1.3 lakh.

The case was registered at JJ Marg police station, where investigators were able to link the duo to several thefts using CCTV footage. “The two accused are known habitual criminals, and since they lived on the footpath, gathering information about them was challenging,” said an officer. Their drug addiction eventually provided a key lead.

On Monday, a tip-off revealed their location at Reay Road railway station in Sewri. Police quickly dispatched a team, apprehending Sheikh at the station. Khan, aware of the trap, tried to flee but was caught after boarding a moving local train, with the help of commuters.
