Ariely Alvarez Cabrera was taken into custody in Mexico on Monday, one month after the disappearance and murder of Daylon Fleitas Gonzalez, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.
Cabrera voluntarily surrendered to authorities and is currently awaiting extradition to Florida. Details on the exact charges she will face have not yet been released.
Her boyfriend, Alfredo Carballo Gonzalez, remains a fugitive and is considered armed and dangerous. Authorities are continuing their search for him.
Fleitas Gonzalez had been reported missing from Hialeah in early August. On Friday, August 8, detectives located his truck, which led them to a nearby area where they discovered a recycling bin containing his body. Multiple items of evidentiary value were also recovered at the scene.
At the time of the incident, Cabrera and Gonzalez were believed to be traveling with a 5-month-old infant. Law enforcement expressed concern for the child’s safety. Fortunately, the baby was later found unharmed and is now safely back in Florida.
The investigation remains active as authorities work to bring Alfredo Carballo Gonzalez into custody.
