Bondamunda police in Rourkela have arrested a 41-year-old man, Arbind Malakar, for allegedly murdering his partner, widow Anita Ekka (40). The incident took place in the slum area of Sitalnagar, where Anita had been living and running a tea stall after her husband’s death.
The crime came to light on Sunday around 4:30 pm, when Anita’s son, Aman, could not locate her. While searching, he found her body lying on the bed, covered with a bedsheet, with visible injuries on her face. Aman and local residents immediately took the body to Rourkela Government Hospital and informed the police.
Following Aman’s FIR on Monday, police detained Malakar, who has confessed to beating and throttling Anita, according to Sub-Inspector A. Sethi of Bondamunda police station. A postmortem was conducted on Monday, and the body was handed over to the family.
Police have confirmed that further investigation is ongoing, and legal proceedings against Malakar are underway.
