Tirupati/Nellore: In a major anti-drug operation, the Nawabpet Police arrested a woman for allegedly storing and transporting ganja, recovering 25 kilograms of the contraband from her residence in Nellore town on Sunday.
According to Nellore city In-charge M Giridhar Rao, the operation was part of the district police’s mission to make Nellore a drug-free area.
The accused, identified as Arava Kamakshi (31), wife of Joseph and a resident of Ahmed Nagar, was reportedly keeping the ganja at her home for illegal transportation. Acting on credible intelligence, police conducted a raid at Kinnera Prasad Layout under Nawabpet police station limits around 9 PM on November 29. The raid, conducted in the presence of the Tahsildar, led to the seizure of the contraband and the arrest of Kamakshi.
A case has been registered against her under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act, 1985.
DSP Giridhar Rao emphasized that the police will take strict action against anyone involved in the consumption, sale, transport, or cultivation of ganja. “Punishments under NDPS cases are severe. Young lives must not be destroyed by drugs,” he stated.
