The mastermind behind a large-scale rental car fraud, Appari Vishwa Phanindra, has been arrested by the Jagadgirigutta police. The operation led to the seizure of 26 vehicles worth Rs2.5 crore. Phanindra, the owner of VVV Cars Tours and Travels, had devised a fraudulent scheme where he promised vehicle owners monthly rental payments. However, he deceived them by absconding with the cars and selling them illegally.
The scam came to light following a complaint filed by Shashidhar on January 27. He had been unable to recover his vehicle or the agreed rental payments from Phanindra’s company. Upon visiting the company’s office, Shashidhar discovered that several other victims were in a similar situation, all having fallen victim to the same fraudulent scheme.
