Lucknow Police have arrested 31-year-old Anurag Singh following the death of his wife, Madhu Singh, whose body was found on August 5. The arrest was made after a complaint by Fateh Bahadur Singh, Madhu’s father, who alleged that she was being harassed for dowry and pressured to abort her pregnancy against her will.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections:
Section 85: Cruelty by husband or relatives
Section 89: Causing miscarriage without consent
Section 80(2): Dowry death
as well as Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961.
DCP South Lucknow Nipun Agarwal stated:
“On August 5, Fateh Bahadur Singh informed us of his daughter’s death. The body was sent for post-mortem, and her husband Anurag Singh has been arrested. Further investigation is underway.”
