In a major breakthrough, the Anupshahr police, supported by the SWAT team, arrested five criminals involved in a daring dacoity at a trader’s residence. The gang had impersonated CBI officers to gain entry and steal valuables. Authorities recovered gold and silver jewellery, Rs13.30 lakh in cash, two motorcycles used in the crime, and three illegal firearms with cartridges.
The accused were identified as Indrapal alias Tau alias Guddu, Yakesh alias Chhotu, Yashpal alias Raja, Sachin, and Sanjay Sharma. Indrapal and Yakesh were carrying cash rewards of Rs25,000 each; the DGP, Rajeev Krishna, subsequently announced an enhanced reward of Rs50,000 after the recovery.
According to ADG Bhanu Bhaskar, the robbery occurred on December 19. During interrogation, Indrapal revealed that after his release on bail on December 12, he contacted Sanjay, who worked as a tractor driver for the trader and provided inside information on large sums of money at the residence.
The case has been registered at Anupshahr police station, and all accused have been sent to judicial custody. Bhaskar added that the arrested men are hardened criminals with extensive histories across multiple districts and states, including dacoity, gang activity, arms offences, and violent crimes.
The operation was led by Inspector Dharmendra Kumar Sharma, with support from the SWAT team under Inspector Mohammad Aslam.
