MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A FedEx employee has been arrested after allegedly stealing gold bars from a package processed through the Memphis Hub and pawning them for cash.
According to the Memphis Police Department (MPD), a company reported that a shipment handled by FedEx arrived with missing contents. Upon investigation, FedEx Loss Prevention discovered that a package containing four one-ounce gold bars had been scanned into the Memphis facility on May 14.
Authorities say Antwone Tate, a FedEx employee, had access to the package at the time the bars—valued at over $13,500—went missing. Further investigation revealed Tate had been pawning a significant amount of jewelry and precious metals since January.
A pawn ticket confirmed he had pawned gold bars. Tate was arrested and charged with theft of property valued between $10,000 and $60,000.
