LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) – Antonio Jerome Mitchell, 46, of Alto, has been arrested by Lufkin Police in connection to a series of robberies that have plagued the area. Mitchell is now facing three robbery charges and one charge of attempted robbery.

The investigation began Friday morning when Lufkin Police responded to a robbery at Western Finance on S. Chestnut St. At approximately 10:40 AM, an employee reported that a man, later identified as Mitchell, demanded money while reaching into his pocket and threatening harm if anyone resisted, leading the employee to believe he was armed. The suspect fled with the cash, and police quickly began to search for him.

Authorities soon realized the description of the suspect matched that of an earlier robbery on February 28 at Payment One Financial on Brentwood Dr. While questioning employees at Western Finance, officers received another report of an attempted robbery at Covington Credit on Wednesday Frank Ave. With suspect and vehicle descriptions in hand, police located a silver Ford Explorer—matching the suspect’s vehicle—at an apartment complex on S. John Redditt Dr.

Mitchell was found nearby in an apartment and was arrested without incident. He was taken to Angelina County Jail, where his bond was set at $675,000 for the four charges.

Following his arrest, Lufkin Police’s Investigations Division took over the case. Mitchell reportedly confessed to the robbery and attempted robbery that day. Investigators are still looking into his involvement in the February 28 robbery and believe he may be responsible for a recent robbery in Alto.

All four incidents, including the three robberies in Lufkin and one in Alto, remain under active investigation. Police are working to ensure every detail is thoroughly examined as the investigation continues.
