DURANT, Okla. – A Durant man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder following the death of 37-year-old Kayla Taporco.

Authorities said Antonio Kendrick, 35, was taken into custody early Friday morning at the College Inn Apartments and booked into the Bryan County Jail at 1:25 a.m.

According to court documents, Kendrick is accused of beating Taporco to death. Police reported that the two were in a relationship and that Taporco’s children were likely present during the assault.

Records show Kendrick has a prior criminal history, including felony domestic assault and methamphetamine possession charges from 2024, for which he received probation.

As of Friday afternoon, part of the apartment complex remained taped off as police continued their investigation. The medical examiner will determine Taporco’s official cause of death.

Kendrick remains in custody at Bryan County Jail without bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, October 8.
