TOPEKA, Kan. — Two Topeka residents were arrested early Saturday morning following a traffic stop that led to the discovery of illegal narcotics, according to the Osage County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies conducted the traffic stop at approximately 2:27 a.m. near 5th Street and Topeka Avenue in Lyndon after observing a traffic violation. During the encounter, officers located suspected illegal drugs inside the vehicle.
As a result, Antoinette D. Latif, 60, and Orman H. Jones, 49, both of Topeka, were taken into custody and booked into the Osage County Jail.
According to authorities, Latif faces multiple charges, including distribution of cocaine, driving under the influence, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a firearm while under the influence, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, transporting an open container, and failure to possess a drug tax stamp.
Jones was charged with distribution of cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, transporting an open container, and failure to possess a drug tax stamp, officials said.
No additional details were released regarding the quantity of drugs allegedly recovered or whether further charges may be filed. The case will proceed through the Osage County court system as prosecutors review the evidence.
As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations only. Both suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
