SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Anthony Michael Holland, 37, was sentenced to 37 months in prison and ordered to pay $1,175,866.91 in restitution after admitting to embezzling funds from Johnson City, Texas.
Holland, who served as City Secretary and Chief Administrative Officer, stole money over a five-year period from 2015 through September 2020. He falsified city financial records to hide the theft, using the stolen funds for personal expenses, including purchasing a home in San Antonio.
On December 15, 2021, Holland pled guilty to one count of theft from a state or local government receiving federal funds.
U.S. Attorney Ashley C. Hoff condemned Holland’s actions, stating, “He repeatedly betrayed the trust of Johnson City residents by stealing from them over six years.” Hoff added that the office remains committed to prosecuting those who harm local governments and communities.
The FBI, with support from the Johnson City Police Department, led the investigation. FBI San Antonio Division Special Agent in Charge Oliver E. Rich Jr. stressed the importance of public cooperation in uncovering corruption. The prosecution team also acknowledged assistance from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s Atlanta Regional Office.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Alan M. Buie, Robert Almonte, and Mark Tindall handled the case.
