DALLAS — A dispute between two groups on West Northwest Highway early Monday, July 21, escalated into a fatal shooting that left 23-year-old Anthony Cristobal dead.

According to Dallas Police, the incident occurred around 4:25 a.m. near the 2000 block of West Northwest Highway after a confrontation between two groups. During the altercation, Cristobal, a security guard, and 21-year-old Heriberto Aguilera exchanged gunfire.

The investigation revealed that Cristobal retrieved a gun from a car and aimed it at 22-year-old Anthony Aguilera. Luisadolfo Mena, a 26-year-old security guard contracted to work at the location, noticed Cristobal with the firearm and shouted verbal commands to drop the weapon.

During this tense moment, Anthony Aguilera assaulted a member of Cristobal’s group, prompting Cristobal to open fire. Mena then returned fire towards Cristobal, while Heriberto Aguilera also fired shots in Cristobal’s direction.

Cristobal was struck and later died at the hospital after receiving aid from security personnel and Dallas Fire-Rescue.

Anthony Aguilera was arrested and charged with assault, while Heriberto Aguilera faces weapons violation charges. The actions of security guard Luisadolfo Mena are under review by a grand jury.
