PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), with assistance from the FBI, has made the largest drug bust in its history following the arrest of an Estacada man on May 24.
Deputies had been tracking 29-year-old Anthony Barrera, who was returning to Oregon from California, after receiving intelligence that he intended to distribute a large quantity of narcotics.
Law enforcement stopped Barrera at a rest stop near Cottage Grove, where he was arrested by MCSO deputies and FBI agents.
A search of the rental vehicle uncovered more than 278 pounds of methamphetamine and two pounds of cocaine, making it the largest drug seizure in Multnomah County’s history.
Later that day, authorities searched Barrera’s home and found two firearms hidden under a closet floor, further escalating the seriousness of the charges.
Barrera appeared in federal court in Portland on Tuesday. A U.S. Magistrate Judge ordered that he be detained pending further court proceedings.
