In a significant move against the rising drug trade in the industrial belt of Baddi, police arrested two individuals and seized large quantities of contraband in two separate operations on Tuesday evening.
In the first case, the special cell of Barotiwala police raided the residence of Anshul (22), a migrant from Badau, Uttar Pradesh, currently residing in Dasomajra village. The operation resulted in the recovery of 4.18 kilograms of cannabis. Anshul was presented in court today and remanded in custody.
In a parallel operation, the Nalagarh police recovered 40.148 kilograms of powdered poppy from the abandoned house of Gurcharan Singh (50), a resident of Dola village under the jurisdiction of the Jogo Police Station.
Both individuals have been booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Superintendent of Police Vinod Dhiman confirmed the seizures and emphasized that investigations are ongoing to identify the entire drug supply chain, both upstream and downstream.
He also acknowledged the challenges of policing drug crimes in Baddi’s densely populated industrial zone, citing a lack of personnel and the increasing involvement of migrant laborers in the drug trade.
Authorities have stepped up monitoring and enforcement efforts in recent weeks due to the alarming uptick in narcotics-related offenses in the region.
