The Triplicane police have arrested a 51-year-old woman, A. Annabakkiyam of Choolaimedu, for allegedly stealing six grams of gold jewelry from a patient in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Omandurar Government Estate Hospital.
According to police, Annabakkiyam was at the hospital to assist a friend who had been admitted. While leaving the premises, she allegedly took advantage of the situation and stole gold jewelry from Sheela, a patient in the ICU.
The incident came to light when Sheela’s daughter, Suganthi (38), returned to the ICU after briefly stepping out to purchase food. She noticed that her mother’s jewelry had gone missing and immediately lodged a complaint.
Based on Suganthi’s statement and further investigation, the police traced and arrested Annabakkiyam, recovering the stolen jewelry. She has been booked under relevant sections, and further inquiries are underway.
