In a major theft case involving domestic staff, Siddapura Police have arrested Anna Reddy Durga (35), a housemaid from Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, and her brother-in-law, Santhani Venkateswara Rao (61), for allegedly stealing gold, diamond, and silver jewellery worth Rs22 lakh from the residence of a doctor couple in Jayanagar 1st Block.

The incident came to light when the doctor couple returned home on July 28 and found both Anna and a significant quantity of jewellery missing. Anna’s phone was switched off, raising immediate suspicion. A formal complaint was lodged on July 31.

Acting swiftly, police traced Anna to her sister’s house in New Rangapur village, Telangana, and arrested her on August 3. Some of the stolen ornaments were recovered from her possession.

During interrogation, Anna confessed to selling a diamond ring through her brother-in-law, Rao. He was arrested the next day, August 4, and admitted to selling the ring at a jewellery store in Rangapur. On August 6, police recovered the 10.45-gram diamond ring as part of the investigation.

Both accused were produced before a magistrate on August 7 and have been remanded to judicial custody.
