A day after a dramatic armed robbery at Jassian Road, where a grocer was looted of Rs2 lakh, Salem Tabri police arrested two accused—Ankit Kumar and Harjit Kumar, both residents of Sherpur Chowk—on Saturday.
According to officials, police recovered two motorcycles, a sharp-edged weapon, and a toy pistol used in the crime. Their three accomplices—Krishna, Gautam, and Sooraj—are still on the run.
ASI Jinder Kumar, the investigating officer, said the incident occurred on Thursday night when four armed men entered the grocery store run by Surinder and demanded cash at gunpoint. One of the robbers allegedly opened fire when they met resistance, but Surinder dodged the shot.
In a brave move, one robber was caught by a store employee during the scuffle. Meanwhile, another accused attacked Joginder Singh, Surinder’s father, injuring him with a blade as he attempted to intervene.
Following the quick response by police and leads from the initial arrest, another accomplice was apprehended. Authorities have launched a manhunt to arrest the remaining three suspects.
An FIR has been registered at Salem Tabri police station under Sections 331(6), 309(4), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
