In a continued crackdown on drug trafficking, the Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU), working alongside Nungambakkam police, arrested two men involved in a methamphetamine smuggling operation.

Suneesh (32) and Nikhil (32), both from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, had been absconding since early April. Their location was traced to a hideout in Bengaluru based on information from four suspects previously apprehended in Chennai on April 2.

During the raid, police seized 10.5 grams of methamphetamine, a mobile phone, and a tablet from the duo. Both were brought to Chennai and presented before a magistrate on Thursday, who remanded them to judicial custody.

This arrest follows an ongoing investigation initiated in early April by the ANIU under the supervision of the Triplicane Deputy Commissioner’s Special Task Force, in collaboration with Nungambakkam police. A surveillance operation near College Lane, opposite the Directorate of Physical Instruction, had led to the arrest of four men suspected of peddling methamphetamine in the area.

Officials revealed the gang operated a well-organized distribution network targeting college students and young professionals in the city. To avoid suspicion, methamphetamine was trafficked in small quantities.

The police suspect the racket extends across multiple states, including Kerala and Karnataka. Further investigations aim to dismantle the wider network and identify other involved individuals.
