Four men, including a jewellery craftsman, were arrested in connection with the theft of nearly Rs50 lakh worth of gold from a workshop in Chowk, police said on Thursday.
According to ADCP (West) Dhananjay Singh Kushwaha, the accused were apprehended near Hussainabad Inter College following a tip-off. The police recovered 563.18 grams of stolen semi-finished gold ornaments from their possession.
The accused have been identified as:
Anil Chaudhary (24) – Wazirganj
Yasir Hussain (27) – Sheesh Mahal
Mohammad Mazhar (30) – Hussainabad
Umesh Kannaujia (32) – Madiaon
ADCP Kushwaha stated that the main accused, Anil Chaudhary, had been working as a craftsman at the complainant’s jewellery shop for the last 3 to 4 years. On August 4, he allegedly fled with about 700 grams of semi-finished jewellery, prompting the police investigation.
The remaining stolen gold is still being traced, and further investigations are underway.
