Two men posing as government officials have been arrested by Fort Police for duping job seekers of Rs 25 lakh by offering fake employment at the state Secretariat.

The prime accused, Anil Babu from Valiyavila, Cheriyakonni, was apprehended in Kottayam on Friday morning. Police revealed that Anil used the defrauded money to fund a lavish lifestyle.

Krishnan, the second accused from Mukkola, Peroorkada, was arrested earlier in connection with the case.

The accused misrepresented themselves as high-ranking government staff and promised placements in various Secretariat departments. Victims paid large sums for appointment letters and job confirmations that never came through.

The investigation began after multiple complaints from victims seeking secure government jobs. Acting on Fort Sub-Division Assistant Commissioner Shibu’s orders, a special investigation team led by Fort SHO Shivakumar scrutinized phone records and conducted raids before making arrests.

Anil Babu was arrested by a team including SI Vineeth, SI Sreekumar, SI Suresh, and SCPO Sreejith under SHO Shivakumar’s leadership. Both accused are now in custody, with further investigations underway to identify more victims.
