RICHMOND, B.C. — Charges have been laid following an RCMP investigation into a pair of bold thefts at Richmond’s McArthurGlen Designer Outlet that resulted in the loss of over $26,000 in merchandise.

On January 16, two men allegedly entered a retail store at the outlet mall and stole 53 pairs of sunglasses valued at more than $23,000. Just four days later, on January 20, one of the same men returned—this time with a woman. During the second incident, the suspects allegedly brandished a can of bear spray while stealing an additional nine pairs of sunglasses worth over $3,200.

Following the investigation by the Richmond RCMP Airport Crime Unit, Anibal Armando Escobar Bogarin has been charged with theft over $5,000, robbery, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was arrested and later released with conditions, including a prohibition from entering the McArthurGlen mall.

“Retail theft is a serious concern for our local residents and business community,” said Staff Sgt. Sahan Perera, who leads Vancouver International Airport Police Operations. “By bringing charges against those involved, we hope to send a loud message that criminal acts will not be tolerated.”
