Angelia Solomon Pleads Not Guilty in Murder-for-Hire Plot

Mother of late teen Grant Solomon charged in hitman scheme

FRANKLIN, TN – Angelia “Angie” Solomon, 55, has pleaded not guilty to charges of solicitation to commit first-degree murder in a shocking murder-for-hire case targeting her ex-husband, former TV anchor Aaron Solomon.

The arrest occurred on April 11 after Angie allegedly attempted to hire a hitman—who was actually an undercover agent from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI)—to kill Aaron. Authorities say she met with the agent in the parking lot of the CoolSprings Galleria Mall, detailing her intent and even offering her car registration as initial payment, admitting she was broke and had “sold everything.”

In court this week, an emotional Angie appeared in an orange jumpsuit as Judge M.T. Taylor lowered her bond from $500,000 to $250,000 and placed her under house arrest with restrictions on internet and phone use. Her daughter, 18-year-old Gracie Solomon, attended the hearing visibly distressed and has since launched a fundraiser to help with her mother’s bond.

Audio played during the proceedings captured Angie telling the undercover officer she wanted her ex “underground,” alleging he had sexually abused their children and murdered their son, Grant Solomon. She accused Aaron of using a baseball bat before staging an accident involving Grant’s truck in July 2020, which police ruled as accidental.

Grant, a rising baseball star, was found dead beneath his pickup truck at a training facility where he had gone to meet his father. Though authorities closed the case as a tragic accident, Angie and supporters have questioned the findings, citing contradictory black box data and the lack of an autopsy.

A private investigator hired by Angie claimed the truck’s data indicated it had been in park and showed signs inconsistent with the police narrative. “How did the truck get into park while Grant was under it?” asked family friend Melanie Hicks, who testified that the incident never received a thorough investigation.

Aaron Solomon, present in court with his legal team, has denied all allegations. The couple had been divorced for ten years at the time of Grant’s death, and both children lived with Angie.

The TBI also revealed that Angie had considered targeting two other individuals in the alleged plot, though their identities remain undisclosed. They were reportedly warned ahead of time.

While Angie’s defenders argue her actions were driven by desperation and trauma, prosecutors maintain that her recorded statements and actions constitute a serious threat. The case continues to draw national attention, especially amid public scrutiny of the original investigation into Grant’s mysterious death.
