A repeat offender has been jailed again after a series of crimes, including assaulting police officers who attempted to arrest her over a suspected knifepoint robbery.
Angela O’Leary, who has no fixed address but is from the Medway area, became aggressive and began swearing when officers tried to detain her. During the struggle, she kicked out at the officers, striking them in the legs and thighs before being brought under control and taken into custody.
O’Leary, 41, appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on November 3, where she admitted two counts of assaulting an emergency worker and five counts of shoplifting. She had been arrested on November 1.
The court heard that on August 19, she stole £13.60 worth of items from a Co-op store in Gillingham, then returned on September 1 and took another £30 worth of groceries. She also stole goods from three additional shops in Chatham.
District Judge Stephen Leake noted that O’Leary was still under post-sentence supervision from a previous prison term. Her arrest came during an investigation into an unrelated suspected knifepoint robbery.
