MEMPHIS, Tenn. — June 2025
A third suspect has been arrested in a large-scale diesel fuel theft ring that defrauded gas stations out of over $63,000, according to the Covington Police Department.
Andre Davis, 30, was taken into custody on Wednesday. Authorities had been searching for him since January, when a warrant was issued for his arrest in connection with the fuel scam. He now faces Theft of Property Over $1,000.
The investigation began on December 3, 2024, when Covington police received reports of suspicious credit sales at the CO-OP 24/7 fuel pumps located at 597 East Liberty Avenue. From September to December 2024, officials tracked 54 fraudulent diesel transactions totaling $24,234.07. Overall, the suspects are believed to have stolen over 18,000 gallons of diesel, worth an estimated $63,000.
Witnesses at the fuel station observed multiple trucks pumping large volumes of diesel into portable containers, all charged to fraudulent credit cards. Surveillance and tip-offs led investigators to link multiple vehicles and suspects to the fuel theft operation, which expanded into Fayette and Hardeman counties.
Earlier this year, police arrested Rylan Hughes (22) and Jordan Sykes (23), both from Memphis. Each was charged with Theft of Property Over $1,000 and booked into the Tipton County Jail on $100,000 bonds. Authorities seized a white Ford F350, several debit cards, and cell phones during the arrests.
Davis’ arrest marks the third confirmed suspect, though police say a fourth individual remains at large.
The investigation is a joint effort between the Covington Police, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Memphis Police Department, and Somerville Police Department.
