In a major crackdown on drug smuggling, NTR District Police arrested two individuals—Andi Nagaraju and Anabalagan Sinnrasu—and seized 200 kg of ganja worth approximately Rs15 lakh, along with two vehicles used for transportation.
Acting on a tip-off, Eagle Teams and Krishna Lanka Police intercepted a Swift Dzire car during a routine check in the Geetanagar area under Krishna Lanka Police Station. Bags of ganja were found concealed inside the vehicle. The driver, Andi Nagaraju, was taken into custody.
Shortly after, a Tata mini goods vehicle attempted to flee the checkpoint but was successfully intercepted. The driver, Anabalagan Sinnrasu, was also arrested. Upon questioning, police discovered the ganja was hidden under false compartments filled with ice boxes, designed to mislead law enforcement.
Andi Nagaraju, originally from Madurai, Tamil Nadu, relocated to Tagarapu Valasa in Visakhapatnam district. Aware of the ganja demand in Tamil Nadu, he devised a plan to buy it cheaply from agency villages and smuggle it to Chennai. He collaborated with Sinnrasu, who drove the mini goods vehicle. Nagaraju led the route in a car to signal police presence.
Both had previously been jailed for similar offenses but resumed their operations after release. Police have launched further investigations to identify the supply network and customers.
