Andheri police achieved a significant breakthrough on July 15 by arresting notorious criminal Moinuddin Nizamuddin Sheikh (46) and his two accomplices from Gujarat. The trio was involved in thefts at over 40 houses. A person who purchased the stolen property was also detained during the operation.
The police recovered stolen items valued at Rs4.20 lakh, including 100 grams of gold and 500 grams of silver.
Sub-Inspector Samadhan Supe identified the accused as Moinuddin Sheikh, a resident of Kurla; Ali Ghulam Nabi Sheikh (49); and Akbar Ali Rain (33) from Palghar. The court remanded the accused in police custody until June 19.
The case relates to the Marol Pipeline area in Andheri, where an unknown thief broke into the house of complainant Vinay Upadhyay (32) by cutting the door handle. The burglar stole gold and silver jewellery along with cash worth Rs7.55 lakh.
Following Upadhyay’s complaint, Andheri police registered a case and assigned the investigation to Sub-Inspector Samadhan Supe and his team.
Since the crime occurred in a slum area with no CCTV coverage, the police relied heavily on human intelligence and technical analysis. CCTV footage from a nearby location showed three suspects wearing raincoats, one of whom was identified as Moinuddin Sheikh. The police also tracked the suspects’ travel routes during the probe.
