Anderson Zambrano-Pacheco, a Venezuelan gang member wanted in Aurora, was arrested in New York City early Tuesday morning. The 26-year-old was taken into custody by Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and U.S. Homeland Security Investigations officers in the Bronx.
Zambrano-Pacheco was sought after felony warrants were issued for first-degree burglary and menacing with a firearm. The arrest stemmed from a disturbing incident that took place on August 18, when a doorbell camera captured Zambrano-Pacheco and five armed men at the Edge at Lowry apartment complex in Aurora. The video went viral, and Aurora resident Cindy Romero spoke out about the trauma caused by the incident, criticizing city officials for their delayed response.
Aurora Police Chief Todd Chamberlain praised the successful collaboration between local, state, and federal law enforcement, stating that this joint effort led to the arrest of a violent criminal, who will no longer be a threat to the communities of both Aurora and New York City.
The investigation into the gang activity, known as Operation Safe Haven, began in August, focusing on criminal offenses within Aurora’s migrant community. While five out of the six suspects seen in the video are now in custody, the investigation is ongoing. Police urge anyone with information to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP (7867), where tips can remain anonymous, and individuals could be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.
