In a shocking case of infant trafficking, Amulya, a former ASHA worker from Malakpet, Hyderabad, was arrested for her involvement in the illegal sale of 18 infants. According to police reports, Amulya was part of a trafficking network that sold babies across several states, including West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh.

Amulya’s involvement in the illicit trade began when she was introduced to the racket by Ismail, a supervisor at the Area Hospital in Malakpet. Promised easy money for helping identify childless couples, Amulya assisted Ismail in the illegal procurement and sale of an infant boy to her relative, Kotha Sugunamma, in 2022. This transaction earned her a profit of Rs 30,000.

As Amulya’s role deepened, she came into contact with Kola Krishnaveni and Deepthi, two key figures in the trafficking network. Together, they expanded the scope of her operations, and Amulya began selling infants both independently and in collaboration with Deepthi. She also established connections with traffickers across multiple states and used social media to further her reach.

By the time of her arrest on March 18, 2025, Amulya had been implicated in the trafficking of 18 infants, eight of which she procured and sold on her own, while the remaining 10 were sold with Deepthi’s help. During the investigation, four infants were rescued, and Amulya confessed to her involvement in the crime, leading to the identification of additional cases.

The police are continuing their investigation to uncover the full extent of the trafficking network, which spans multiple states and involves several other suspects.
