In a significant operation, Amritsar Police claimed to have dismantled a major drug trafficking cartel with the arrest of four smugglers, including a 16-year-old juvenile, and the seizure of 4.01kg of heroin, Rs20,000 in drug money, and three motorcycles.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Tarsem Singh alias Sema (23), Amrit Singh alias Abhi (21), both residents of Jalalabad, Fazilka, Ramanjit Singh alias Raman (19) from Tarn Taran, and a juvenile from Ferozepur. According to Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, the group was heavily involved in smuggling drugs across the Pakistan-India border.
The arrested smugglers were reportedly in constant communication with Pakistan-based drug traffickers, who used the Ferozepur sector to drop heroin shipments. The smugglers used precise coordinates for the drops, which were collected by the group.
The juvenile, whose identity has been withheld due to his age, played a pivotal role by using boats to cross the Sutlej River to retrieve drug consignments dropped by the Pakistani smugglers near the international border fencing.
The police have filed two separate FIRs under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigations are underway to identify additional links and connections in this drug trafficking operation. Authorities anticipate more arrests and drug recoveries in the coming days as the investigation progresses.
