Amritsar police confiscated 6 kilograms of high-grade heroin and arrested two key members of a trans-border narcotics smuggling racket on Sunday. The accused were identified as Gurditta, alias Kalu, from Bhaini Rajputan village, and Captain Singh of Lahorimal village.
According to Superintendent of Police, Amritsar (Rural), Aditya Warrior, the Gharinda police received specific intelligence that linked Gurditta, Captain Singh, and another suspect, Guri Darji from Naushehra (Tarn Taran), to a cross-border drug trafficking network.
Acting on this intelligence, police laid a trap and arrested Gurditta and Captain Singh near Bhakna village while they were transporting a consignment of heroin on a motorcycle. The seized heroin was packed in six packets wrapped with yellow adhesive tape, indicating smuggling connections from Pakistan-based syndicates. The narcotics were reportedly intended for distribution across various regions in Punjab.
A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Gharinda police station. Meanwhile, efforts continue to track down and apprehend Guri Darji.
Investigations are underway to uncover the full extent of the drug supply chain, including cross-border links. Police are also examining whether the accused’s properties were purchased with proceeds from drug trafficking, with plans to freeze such assets if confirmed.
