In a significant operation, the Amritsar Counter Intelligence (CI) unit has arrested two operatives linked to the international drug smuggler Jassa, seizing a massive 10kg of heroin and Rs 1 lakh in drug money. The two arrested individuals have been identified as Gurpinder Singh from Chak Mishri village and Sajan from Indira Colony.
According to DGP Punjab Police, Gaurav Yadav, the arrest followed an intelligence-driven operation, which successfully dismantled an international narco-smuggling module led by the foreign-based smuggler Jassa. The arrested operatives, Gurpinder Singh and Sajan, were reportedly involved in trafficking and distribution of narcotics under Jassa’s command.
The authorities confiscated 10kg of heroin, a significant drug haul, along with Rs 1 lakh suspected to be drug money. Jassa, a wanted criminal, is believed to be involved in several cases related to the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act and the Arms Act, with the Punjab Police actively pursuing him for various criminal activities.
A fresh FIR has been registered at the SSOC Police Station in Amritsar, and further investigations are underway to trace both the forward and backward linkages of the drug smuggling operation.
This operation underscores the ongoing efforts by the Punjab Police to combat drug trafficking in the region, particularly narcotics smuggling linked to international networks.
