NEW ORLEANS, La. (KPLC) – An Amite man is facing federal charges related to a deadly kidnapping and human trafficking case involving a mother and her two young daughters.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office released a bill of information on Friday, charging 37-year-old Daniel Wayne Callihan with kidnapping resulting in death and transporting a minor across state lines for sexual purposes.
Prosecutors say Callihan murdered Loranger mother Callie Brunette in June, then abducted her two daughters and transported them to Mississippi.
Authorities found Brunette’s four-year-old daughter dead in a wooded area in Jackson, Mississippi, while her six-year-old daughter was found injured but alive.
In connection with the case, police also arrested Victoria Cox, 32, who is suspected of being an accomplice. The case is believed to be tied to human trafficking.
Both suspects are facing charges in Louisiana and Mississippi related to their involvement in the alleged crimes.
