New Delhi: The Delhi Police Crime Branch arrested Amit Kumar Jha, also known as Hari Kant Jha, a proclaimed offender in two drug trafficking cases, as he attempted to flee the city near Khajuri Chowk, officials confirmed on Sunday.
Jha, a resident of Riwaspur in Faridabad, Haryana, had been on the run for several years. He was declared a proclaimed offender in August 2024 in a case filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) by the Crime Branch in 2018. A non-bailable warrant was also issued against him earlier this year in a separate drug-related case registered at the Kashmere Gate police station.
The breakthrough came after a tip-off was received by a head constable of the Crime Branch, who alerted his team that the accused would be near Khajuri Chowk around 4 PM. A team laid a trap near parked vehicles and apprehended the suspect while he was heading towards Shastri Park Road.
Upon interrogation, the accused confirmed his identity. Subsequent verification revealed his history of habitual drug trafficking and his status as a court-declared offender. He has been arrested under due legal procedure and is now in custody for further investigation.
Police officials said they are expanding their probe to identify other operatives in his network and uncover additional details regarding his narcotics activities.
