Jaipur: Police arrested Amit Chauhan, 25, for allegedly mowing down a group of cyclists in a high-speed hit-and-run in Vidyadhar Nagar shortly after midnight on Wednesday. The incident left two dead and several others injured.
The victims were identified as Devdat Behera alias Tappu (31) and Amulya Patra (55), both originally from Odisha and living as tenants in Jalupura.
According to SHO Himmat Singh, the accident occurred near the service lane around 12:05 am, when a speeding car ran over a group of cyclists and fled the scene. Police recovered four damaged bicycles, bloodstains, and a broken number plate RJ-14 CG 6812.
Using the plate, authorities traced the vehicle to Ashok Kumar Tak, a resident of Malviya Nagar, before identifying Chauhan as the driver. The injured victims were rushed to a hospital, where one succumbed during treatment.
Deputy Commissioner of Police North, Karan Sharma, confirmed Chauhan’s arrest. Police continue their investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
