LINCOLN, Neb. – Amanda Wright, 42, has been sentenced to 19 to 20 years in prison for the death of her husband, 38-year-old Zachary Svoboda, following a plea deal that reduced her charge to manslaughter.
Wright pleaded no contest earlier this year after prosecutors accused her of intentionally administering a deadly combination of fentanyl and methamphetamine to her husband on August 21, 2023. Authorities say she made no attempt to call for medical help and later tried to cover up the incident.
According to court records, Wright arranged for someone else to discover Svoboda’s body two days later, on August 23, while she was away from their home. An autopsy confirmed Svoboda died from acute intoxication caused by the potent drug mixture.
Wright was arrested in April 2024. She initially pleaded not guilty to a charge of first-degree murder before accepting a plea deal for a reduced manslaughter charge. The sentencing marks the end of a case that highlighted the fatal consequences of fentanyl and meth abuse in domestic settings.
