PANAMA CITY, Fla. – A Florida postal worker and her husband are facing multiple charges in connection with an elaborate mail theft and bank fraud scheme that authorities say netted them over $50,000.

Bay County Sheriff’s investigators arrested Amanda Louise McPherson, 38, and her husband Johnathon Edward McPherson, 28, after uncovering evidence that Amanda stole mail from her delivery routes in Youngstown and eastern Bay County. The mail allegedly contained financial documents and checks.

According to authorities, Amanda then impersonated the victims when contacting their banks and altered their account information to redirect future payments into accounts she controlled. She reportedly told investigators that her husband, Johnathon, provided the information and handled the stolen money.

Amanda McPherson, who worked as a postal carrier, was released on a $40,000 bond after her arrest. Meanwhile, her husband remains in custody on a $310,000 bond and is also being held by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), as he is reportedly in the country illegally.

Investigators say the fraud began in August 2024, and the total loss to victims easily exceeded $50,000. The case is part of a broader investigation into fraud and abuse involving the exploitation of postal routes for financial gain.
