A 23-year-old man was arrested by the Oshiwara Police for allegedly scamming a Jogeshwari resident out of Rs6.09 lakh through a fake job offer shared on Telegram.
The accused, Aman Parmar, originally from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, was arrested last week from Calangute, Goa, with the assistance of the local police.
According to police sources cited in a Mid-Day report, the victim is a 32-year-old supervisor at a slipper factory in Jogeshwari. On June 12, he received a Telegram message from someone calling himself “Vijay,” offering daily earnings of Rs5,000–Rs8,000 for rating restaurants online.
To gain the victim’s trust, the fraudsters sent a Rs180 registration bonus and directed him to a fake investment platform mimicking the National Stock Exchange (NSE) website. It showed fake balances to suggest growing profits.
From June 12 to June 15, the victim made multiple payments via Google Pay and PhonePe, totaling Rs6,09,884, in hopes of unlocking higher returns. Despite seeing increasing balances on the fake platform, he never received any actual payout.
When the victim realized he had been duped, he filed a complaint with Oshiwara Police, who began tracking the accused using technical surveillance.
Parmar was eventually tracked down in Goa and arrested. Police also seized a mobile phone and two SIM cards used in the scam.
