VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Two separate child abuse cases are scheduled to go to trial in Warren County during the court term beginning December 8, according to official records.

Alveyteen Alexander has been indicted on charges of child abuse and child neglect. Prosecutors allege that she intentionally starved a child under her care. Unless a plea agreement is reached, her case will proceed to trial. Alexander is represented by defense attorney Noah Drake, with Assistant District Attorney Branan Southerland prosecuting the case for the state.

In a separate case, Victor Jones and Emily Lelonek have been indicted for the alleged abuse of a 2-month-old child. Their trials are also set for the December court term. Authorities have not yet disclosed the specific nature of the alleged abuse.

Under Mississippi law, child abuse can carry a life sentence, while a conviction for child neglect is punishable by up to five years in prison.

All three defendants remain presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
