Alieu George, 45, with no fixed address, has been found guilty of rape and sexual assault by penetration at Brighton Crown Court. The jury returned the verdict on Wednesday, 17 December, despite George’s denial of the charges.
On Sunday, 22 June, around 9.05am, three members of the public noticed a troubling scene in Dorset Gardens, Brighton. They saw a man with a distressed woman and then witnessed George lying on top of her. Concerned, the witnesses called police immediately. Officers arrived within minutes to find the 34-year-old victim in distress, while George falsely claimed she was his girlfriend.
The victim reported that she had been out for drinks when George approached, separated her from her friends, and repeatedly sexually assaulted her before taking her to Dorset Gardens. George was arrested at the scene and charged the same day.
George has been remanded in custody and is due back at Brighton Crown Court for sentencing on 10 March 2026.
Detective Constable Daisy Alden praised both the victim’s bravery and the quick response of the witnesses:
“I would like to pay tribute to the victim for her courage. I also commend the three members of the public for calling 999, which led to a rapid police response and arrest. Their testimonies were highly impactful at court. Alieu George preyed on the victim and poses a clear danger to women. The streets of Brighton are safer now that he is in custody. We are committed to ending male violence against women and take reports of sexual offences extremely seriously.”
