Ali Moeini Arrested to Serve Prison Sentence in Isfahan

Activist Moeini faces six months in prison for his charges

by Amelia Crawford

Ali Moeini, a political activist from Isfahan, was arrested on February 6, 2025, to serve a six-month prison sentence. The arrest follows his conviction on charges of “inciting violence” and “propaganda against the Islamic Republic.”

Moeini, who had been sentenced to six months in prison alongside a five-year suspended sentence, was transferred to Dastgerd Prison. The suspended part of his sentence will not be enforced unless he commits another offense in the next five years.

In addition to his prison time, Moeini faces a two-year travel ban and the permanent confiscation of personal property, including digital devices.

Moeini’s legal troubles stem from his activism, which has led to multiple clashes with Iranian authorities. He was initially arrested on August 10, 2024, with his personal and his wife’s belongings confiscated by security forces. After over two months in detention, he was released on bail in October 2024.

Moeini has faced prior legal challenges due to his political stance, and his arrest signals continued pressure on dissidents in Iran.
