Alfred Jones Arrested in $13K Aurora Retail Theft

Police cite repeat offenses after quick release

DENVER — A man accused of stealing nearly $13,000 worth of merchandise from multiple Aurora businesses has been arrested, according to police.

Authorities say 37-year-old Alfred Jones carried out a series of thefts beginning in mid-February, targeting several major retailers, including Target, Ulta, Kohl’s, and Barnes & Noble.

Jones was arrested on March 19 and charged with four counts of theft and one count of robbery. However, he was later released on a personal recognizance (PR) bond, meaning no cash bail was required.

Police said that the day after his release, Jones returned to a Target store, where loss prevention staff recognized him and escorted him out before another incident could occur.

Investigators noted that Jones has a criminal history dating back to 2009 involving theft-related offenses.

While Aurora police reported a decrease in overall larceny losses—from $1.8 million in 2024 to $870,000 in 2025—they expressed concern about repeat offenders being quickly released and continuing criminal activity.

In a statement, the department emphasized that cases like Jones’ highlight a broader issue, saying they are working with partners across the justice system to address repeat offenses and the organized nature of retail theft.
