WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — Alexander Johnson, one of two suspects involved in a break-in at JJ’s convenience store in Wichita Falls, has been charged with burglary of a building after police used surveillance footage to link him to the crime.
The burglary occurred on the morning of December 4 at JJ’s, located at 4202 Kell Boulevard. During the break-in, thieves stole almost $9,000 worth of lottery tickets from three display stands. Surveillance video from the store shows two individuals loitering on the west side of the building, one of whom used a mallet to break the glass door. The two suspects then fled with the stolen tickets, running north on McNiel. A black SUV was also seen near the scene.
Just over an hour later, an attempt was made to cash one of the stolen tickets at another store. However, the ticket was turned away because its value exceeded the store’s cashing limit. Surveillance footage from the second store also showed the same black SUV, and the suspect matched the description of the individual seen at JJ’s. Another attempted ticket cashing was also rejected, with an employee noting the license plate of the black SUV.
After tracking the license plate, officers located the SUV at Johnson’s residence in Iowa Park. When approached, Johnson acted nervously and denied any involvement in the burglary. Further investigation confirmed his connection to the crime.
Johnson, who has other pending charges from February, including resisting arrest and attempting to take an officer’s weapon, is now facing burglary charges related to the December 4 incident. Police reports from Iowa Park indicate that Johnson previously resisted officers during a disturbance, even brandishing a knife and attempting to take a taser from law enforcement.
Johnson has been arrested and charged, and authorities continue to investigate the case.
